Our very first partner project, Dilli Ki Khirki collects the oral histories of the residents of Khirki Village in New Delhi, who trace their roots back to the 13th century.
About the Project
Khirki is an urban village located in the heart of posh South Delhi. While geographically the village lies within the city’s boundaries, it is excluded from a number of planning and administrative processes, and continues to follow traditional social practices. Its residents trace their roots back to the 13th Century, when its founder, Khoobi, moved to Delhi from Indore and established it.
As a result, the village functions as one big family even today. Having lived and experienced the city for generations, the residents have some very interesting insights to offer, not just about life in Khirki, but also about the evolution of the city of Delhi around them. This project is conducted in partnership with oral historian, Dr. Ekta Chauhan.
