Shared Breath is a project that records the personal histories of people who have encountered Tuberculosis – patients, doctors, and caregivers.
About the Project
Shared Breath is an oral history project that documents the lived experiences of tuberculosis across diverse communities. Despite being both ancient and curable, TB remains a persistent and evolving public health challenge, further complicated by drug-resistant strains. It shapes livelihoods, strains households, and leaves lasting emotional and social scars, yet public conversation around it remains limited, often confined to statistics and policy spaces.
Through personal narratives, the project seeks to move beyond numbers and foreground the human experience of the disease—on individuals, families, and communities. By listening closely to lived experience, it aims to illuminate dimensions of tuberculosis that are often unseen and unspoken. If this ancient microbe has shaped human history, perhaps remembering—thoughtfully and collectively—can help shape what comes next, deepening engagement with the ongoing task of tuberculosis elimination.
