About the Workshop
Inspired by the personal contributions of Pathare Prabhu families to the exhibition ‘Roots of a City’ at the Mumbai Gallery of the CSMVS, this two-part interactive workshop will explore how personal, family, and community histories help us understand who we are and where we come from.
Participants will learn the basics of oral history interviewing, documenting personal archives and material culture, and uncovering meaningful stories. We will also discuss practical strategies for interviewing relatives and community members and preserving memories for future generations.
To register, email events@csmvs.in. Museum entry charges apply.
About the exhibition
The exhibition is jointly curated by the CSMVS curatorial team and Rajan Jayakar. It focuses on the Pathare Prabhu community, one of Mumbai’s earliest settlers, and their contribution to the city’s development, highlighting a community that has evolved with changing contexts while retaining a distinct cultural identity. The exhibition offers a comprehensive overview of the community’s origins and migration, social structure and culture.
