At the Citizens’ Archive of India, we develop high-quality, multimedia exhibitions to bring our archive to the public. Our previous solo shows include:

Life As They Knew It

Chemould Prescott Road, November 2019

Life As They Knew It: Stories of India’s First Citizens presents individual perspectives and experiences with the aim to showcase how a ‘first citizen of India’ grew up. Lives were not just affected by the politics in the country, but also by geography, gender, societal norms, and circumstantial occurrences. The exhibition aspires to make the viewer reflect on how times have changed – with respect to being born, forming an identity, growing up, getting married, or building a career. These stories, commonplace enough then, seem almost foreign to us today. The exhibition ends with high points and lighter moments recalled by these citizens. Moments which, unlike those of their everyday lives, were out of the ordinary.

Voices Of Freedom

IfBe, August 2022

Voices Of Freedom was created to celebrate 75 years of Indian independence. With this long desired political freedom, young Indians were given the privilege of charting their own path. This exhibition uses the archive’s collection to showcase stories of a generation that grew up with their country, and witnessed sweeping transformations in cultural and social attitudes, technology, lifestyles, and infrastructure. Along the way, this generation has experienced personal freedoms that were earlier unavailable, bringing uninhibited joy and a sense of achievement.
